Sustainable forest management

Today, forest owners often have various purposes. In the use of forests, steps are taken to coordinate, for example, wood production and measures that promote and increase biodiversity, recreational use of forests, game management, and landscape management. The role of forests in mitigating climate change as carbon sinks and carbon stocks has become part of forest management.

Well-planned forest management measures contribute to all of these objectives in a sustainable way and have an impact on the profitability of forestry on a property-by-property basis. The property and compartment-specific forest and nature information produced by the Finnish Forest Centre helps forest owners in planning certain measures and coordinating their objectives. The Finnish Forest Centre promotes the sustainable use of forests through consulting, training, and communication. We also ensure the sustainability of forests by participating in the preparation of legislation and guidelines and by monitoring the implementation of the regulations.
