Private roads

More than half a million people live along private roads. Private roads are important routes for rural businesses. For example, more than 90 percent of the annually harvested timber goes to processing plants from alongside private roads. Private roads also play an important role in leisure traffic. However, the annual renovation volume of private roads, including bridges, is not at a sufficient level.

A lot of repair debt has been incurred over the last decade and this threatens future transportation. For example, wood supply is now year-round, which requires much from private roads.

The Finnish Forest Centre advises, trains, and seeks solutions for eliminating private road repair debt in cooperation with industry stakeholders.
