Forest ownership

The generational transfer of a forest property or other ownership-related arrangements, such as joining a jointly owned forest, can be the biggest decisions related to forest ownership. There have been major changes in forest ownership in recent decades. The share of wage earners, retired forest owners and women among forest owners has risen and forest properties have become increasingly fragmented due to generational transfer. A well-planned change of ownership has far-reaching effects on, among other things, the profitability of forestry. New forms of forest ownership have also become available, and forest ownership is of widespread interest.

The Finnish Forest Centre contributes to the development of a functioning forest ownership and reparcelling through consulting and communication, and by participating in the preparation of legislation.
