The operation of jointly owned forests

The operation of jointly owned forests is based on the established regulations and the Act on Jointly Owned Forests.

An administrative board or a trustee is responsible for the practical operation of the forest. If a trustee or trustees have been appointed in addition to the board, the division of responsibilities is defined in the regulations.

A jointly owned forest is established to manage a forest area that belongs to the shareholders’ properties as their common area. The forest can also acquire separate forest properties, which will be jointly owned by the shareholders.

The purpose of the operation is to engage in sustainable forestry for the benefit of shareholders. The Finnish Forest Centre maintains a jointly owned forest register, which contains regulations and a list of signatories for the jointly owned forests.
